March and all that is signifies is upon us.  Mad Basketball.  Haphazard Weather.  Antsy School Children Itching for Spring Break.  And now…Laugh Fest!

What perfect timing!  From March 10 to March 20, Grand Rapids will be wearing a big smile.  Local and national talent will be here to entertain all ages.  And all budgets.  Don’t you just love Grand Rapids?!

A must-see for families is Dan Zanes & Friends on March 15 & 16 at 10AM and 1PM (more info) at St. Cecilia Music Center.

I spoke with Dan on the phone today; his laid-back phone demeanor did not convey the shock of hair atop his head or that he hails from Brooklyn, NY.

Also noted was Dan’s preferred description:   He creates Dance Parties rather than Concerts.   Supposedly audiences start moving and grooving to the music every time he performs.

I challenged him on this point.

“Umm, Dan– do you know that you are coming to Grand Rapids?  We have a reputation for being a little stiff.”

His response: He just got back from England- and even with their reputation- they were dancing there and having a great time.

I want to go just to see how much he can get GR to move.  Well, I also want to go because I’ve listened to some of his music and it is fun for adults and kids.  0-8 year-olds may be able to dance without reservation, but I’m betting we’ll see all ages cutting loose on March 15 & 16.

Another reason to get tickets for Dan Zanes and friends is the St. Cecilia Youth Orchestra.  They will be playing with Dan while he plucks away at the banjo, mandolin, guitar and more.
