Are you ready to be swept away with Mary Poppins and her chimney pals? Do you need a “spoon full of sugar” to help your cold medicine go down? The magical nanny, Mary Poppins, will be in Grand Rapids with her magical charm in just a few weeks.
Brought to town by Broadway Grand Rapids, this musical will open Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30, and run through Sunday with performances Thursday at 7:30, Friday at 8:00, Saturday at 2:00 and 8:00, and Sunday 1:30 and 6:30. Tickets begin at $28 and can be purchased at DeVos Performance Hall box office, ticketmaster.com, or via phone 1-880-745-3000.
A special Family Night has been added for the Sunday 6:30pm performance. BOGO when you purchase one adult regular price ticket get one child (18 years younger) free! Also Family Night activities will be available just before the performance from 5-6:30pm in the lobby of the DeVos Hall. The first 100 children will receive a Mary Poppins bag with merchadise inside.

Mary Poppins has always been one of our family favorite’s! It has even followed the kids to bedtime, with Feed The Birds being a classic night-night song that mama sings to them. Seeing this at the theater would be such a fun experience!

I have great memories of wearing my knee high Mary Poppins socks (with shorts of course) to the flee markets every Saturday with my Grandma Josie.
I’d have to say Chim-Chim-Cheree. My father-in-law wrote special lyrics to the Chim-Chim-Cheree tune for our daughter and we’ve sung it to her since she was born.

Our family favorites are “The Perfect Nanny” (great when sung by our twin 4 year old sons) and “Sister Suffragette” (one of my wife’s favorites and a theme of the musical that we both appreciate.) Mary Poppins is one of the first collections of sheet music from my wife’s childhood (which she received from her mother) and we’re glad to be passing these memories on to our own kids. If I were to add one more, a personal favorite of mine is “Fidelety Fiduciary” because of the investment lesson (and not do much because it’s sung by rather grumpy bankers.

When I was a kid, one of the older neighborhood girls organized a summer “backyard” production of Mary Poppins with all of the kids from the block. I learned Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious for my part. That ditty takes me back to my childhood home, and puts me back among my childhood friends…if only for a moment!

I still have the record album of all of the Mary Poppins music. I remember listening to this over and over as a child and now my children love Mary Poppins too. My favorite song has got to be Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. How can you not love a song with such a silly word in it?
We LOVE Step in Time! My kids always try to mimic the dance moves.
“I love to laugh, ha,ha,ha…”That is one of my favorite scenes in the movie- you can’t help but chuckle. I watch the movie all the time with my kids and Grandkids- and have taught them all “supercalifragilistic…., For Christmas this year I asked for the movie in DVD form, since my VCR one is so woren, and Santa bought it for me- the best gift I’ve ever gotten….The best part was watching it at my daughters with my Grandkids on a 60″ TV-incredible- but to see the play would even be more!!!
